Default new to guild wars please help me

Hi, i'm new to guild wars and have prophecies atm, i watn to build a w/mo, but i have read a few forums and said that i will require factions_night fall in order to be a good PVP/PVE w/mo, is this true? and if i but an access key online from guild wars site, does this mean i don't need to buy the whole box versions?

Every chapter has skills that are exclusive for that chapter... so when you have only prophecies you can only use skills that are available in prophecies. It helps when you have all chapters but you still can make nice builds when you only have 1 chapter.

And yes, when you buy a key online via the guildwars site then you dont need to buy a boxed version anymore. But boxed version have manual, maps, etc as extra... an online bought key only has the game.

and also... if you bought the Boxed Game in a retail store, or even online, it will be cheaper than buying the Key in the Guild Wars store.

If you just want to PvP, you can also buy the PvP unlock in the official store, which will give you access to all skills for PvP purposes.

If you want to both PvE and PvP, then I strongly suggest you buy Factions, NightFall and Gwen.

Good Luck
and have fun

Keep in mind most people run very similar builds and thus tell you only certain skills are acceptable.

Just about any build can work in PvE so try every skill to find a combo that you like.

In PvP people are very critical that every build must be as efficient as possible this leads to a very small number of builds that tend to work best for each proff.

thanks for fast replies! is eyes of the north really worth getting? cz i read quite a few forums and not many people have mentioned anythin about important skills that are gained in that expansion. Does any1 know the best or most efficient group fighting w/mo build? or what skills i will need, i'm guessing i can't learn the factions/nightfall skills until i can go into them places by doing them transport quest things right? cz i don't want to have to buy all 3 GW games at once or take skills which i won't need once i learn the expansion skills.

Since you only have proph, go Axe so you can use cyclone axe.

Here's a build that you should try to work towards, it won't be great but it'll get you started.

[skill]Cyclone Axe[/skill]
[skill]Dismember[/skill]
[skill]Penetrating Blow[/skill]
[skill]"Watch Yourself!"[/skill]
[skill]Healing Signet[/skill]
[skill]Mend Ailment[/skill]
[skill]Remove Hex[/skill]
[skill]Rebirth[/skill]

When you can get elite skills, replace Penetrating Blow with [skill]Cleave[/skill] then once you can get [skill]Eviscerate[/skill] put PB back on your bar and take off Dismember. To use the monk skills, only use them to remove conditions and hexes from yourself, but you need to learn which ones to focus on. Use rebirth after battles or if you are forced to retreat.

If you decide to PvP, replace the monk skills with sprint, frenzy, and res signet.

lol the problem is, i don't like the look of axe, i prefer sword hehe, i'm more appearance then performance in a way lol, instead of having monk do you think full warrior will be good? or willl w/mo be better in the long run, because i don't want to make too many chars, i just like ot have a char which will be gud at PVP and PVE but not excel amazingly in any, as you would have to have many different characters.

Well, you *have* to take a secondary profession. No way out of that that I've heard. You *can* set things up so that you don't assign any attribute points to that secondary's attributes, of course, or equip or buy any of their skills. (though you should still buy them since you can reassign the attribute points at will in town)

You can be a good/effective player with just Prophecies - it mostly how you set up and use what you have rather than what you have, especially in PvE. Probably have a more difficult time in PvP, though, but it's still not necessary to run out and grab F, NF and EotN right away. Of course, without them you'll likely have to endure screams of "n00b!", "lrn2ply!" and "loser!", especially in PvP, from the idiot squad...

In the beginning you have only your primary profession in any campaign. Almost immediately though the storyline/quests let you begin to experiment with the other professions as a secondary. I always recommend that you try them all out before you make your final choice, if nothing else you can learn some free skills.
You will come to a point where you must choose a secondary profession that you will carry with you for a while.
Eventually each campaign also takes you to a point where you are allowed to alter your secondary professions at will in outposts.

Great place for just raw information about GW but sometimes hard to navigate when you are looking for something specific. Great resource though, highly recommend it.
In the beginning I personnaly would ignore your secondary profession as a warrior because you will have a hard time with both the energy requirements and the attribute requirements needed, especially early on. Many great warrior bars have only warrior skills on them.

Also, you can easily switch your builds between PvP and PvE at any time. You can use one build for PvE and a completely different one for PvP.

In terms of PvP though, since you only have Prophecies, the only real effective build you can run is a standard Eviscerate build (which uses an axe). There aren't many good sword elites in Prophecies (only one elite period, and it's not that great for PvP).

Also, the secondary profession feature is NOT exclusive to Factions, it's a standard feature in every game.

Once you feel the need for new content, sure. And don't worry about having to be level 20 to access the EotN content - L20's really not all that far away. Maybe 2/3rds of the way through Prophecies? It's a lot quicker in Factions and Nightfall, however.

It used to be that only level 20 could get into EotN, but you can go there at level 10 now. And you'll get a "Don't Stop Believing" effect which will give you level 20 stats (when you're in EotN).

There are not many PvP skills offered in EotN, which is I think why you don't see much mention of EotN when looking at builds. But there are many PvE-only skills that you need to get, so you can join us in the bitch-fest (hehe you'll understand later).

That is NOT true.

You can access Eye of the North once you reach Lion's Arch and reach lvl 10. It was updated and changed a couple of months ago from level 20 to level 10.

W/Mo is very common for PvE, but not used much in most PvP. Unfortunately, most people who use W/Mo use it poorly, and many see a W/Mo and assume they will be one of those idiots. Most common, and useful advice for a W/Mo is to use ONLY condition/hex removal skills, and in PvE, and hard rez. Don't use Monk spells to heal yourself. A Warrior won't have the energy or attributes to spare for it.

If you want to do good in PvP, you will want all 4 games for skill options. Although not all people use a skill from all games each time, there are few people who never use a skill from a certain game. If PvP is going to be an occassional thing, then get whichever games you can afford and offer classes/features you like.
